The Blue Plum Festival

Mark your calendars! The Blue Plum Festival takes place in Johnson City June 3-4. Blue Plum has grown to be a staple for Johnson City, TN bringing in over 8000 people in 2019 and providing funding to other festivals, like the Downtown Yoga Festival.  This year, Blue Plum decided to implement a Wellness Area to the festival, and we were pumped when they asked FytFeed to chair this new addition to the overall festival.  Living in Johnson City, with the catch phrase of “Go All Out”, it only makes sense to incorporate Wellness into the atmosphere. Our mountain town vibe lends itself to all aspects of health and wellness from fitness to outdoor recreation, movement, and self-care. This is the first year that Wellness will be implemented into the festival, so it can only grow from here! We are excited!

To help bring awareness to all the things people can do (for free!) at the festival, we are running a challenge in the FytFeed app where people will track their Blue Plum Wellness activities for a chance to win some awesome prizes, including gift certificates to local restaurants and swag from downtown Johnson City merchants.

Blue Plum Wellness Challenge

The line-up of free Wellness events runs from Friday til Sunday, and we have been overwhelmed with generosity of our event hosts!  For each Wellness activity you participate in, you can track it for 1 point in the challenge (found in the FytFeed app) for a chance to win prizes. Check out this itinerary!

The official Wellness area will be in King Commons Park behind the Ale House; however, we will have events going on all over the place too! Unless noted otherwise below, you’ll be able to find our activities there!

Friday:

For recovery, we will be offering FREE chair massages by Amethyst Healing Massage Studio from 4-8pm.

Johnson City Brewery has also generously offered to provide anyone who participates in our JCB 5k Walk/Run with a free beverage!  Meet up in the Wellness Area at 6pm to sign-in!  There will be a team of volunteers to help with running/walking the route to JCB from there.  The run/walk will begin at 6:30pm.

From 7-8pm, White Lotus Martial Arts will be offering a Tai Chi Class on Friday evening. I can say from personal experience that David’s Tai Chi class is a lot of fun! Its movements are large, gentle, slow and evenly-paced.

Also from 7-8pm, Rollerdance Tricities will be hosting a dance party! Get your groove on! No skates required! This event will take place on the flower sculpture patio. Abby and her rollerdancing team are brilliant!  Abby’s What’s Your Y? story is also super inspiring as a member of the FytFam.

Saturday:

Local Motion Cyclery will have a tent and bike demo area set up starting at 10:00am on Saturday morning if you want to check out what their shop has to offer!  They are also hosting two activities.  They will have a track stand competition at their tent inside King Commons Park at 11:30am followed by a Tweetsie Trail group ride leaving from Local Motion’s shop at noon.

Also starting at 11:30am and running until 5:30pm, the Tri-Cities Turtles Run Club will be hosting an ‘Almost 5k Challenge’ in Founders Park. This challenge allows you to spend the day working toward the goal of walking, jogging, or running 6 laps around Founders Park. The Tri-Cities Turtles will be there to provide bibs, cheer you on, AND provide drink tickets upon completing the challenge. Yee-Haw Brewery has generously agreed to provide anyone (21 years of age and older) with a free half pint of beer for successfully completing this challenge.

Starting at 1pm until 6pm, we will be holding an Adult Field Day!  This event is being hosted by Tri-Cities Social Sports and Young Professionals of Johnson City, and they are ready to have some fun!  The Field Day will include Giant Beer Pong and Croquette!  This is a sneak preview to an even larger field day they’ll be hosting in July!  You can get up to 2 points for playing both field day games!

Finally, from 7-8pm, there will be a Belly Dancing class by Meraki Movement Studio.  All are welcome for a step by step Belly Dance class! No technique needed, but fun, sweat, and laughter requested!

Sunday:

Although the official Blue Plum Fest ends on Saturday night, the Blue Plum Fest Challenge includes two additional activities.

Challenge participants can receive a point for attending the Johnson City Yoga Festival taking place all day in downtown JC.

Additionally, Trek Bike Shop will be hosting Shred Shots from 6-7pm at Tannery Knobs! Ready to upgrade your profile pictures? Forget boring head shots, we’re taking SHRED SHOTS! Trek partnered with Robert King Photography to capture you looking epic, regardless of your skill level. The event (and pics) is free and of course everyone will be riding the trails during the photo shoot.
